TeamViewer, is a widely used computer remote-access application that lets you connect across devices and control them. It also gives you the ability to communicate with users, setup meetings and share files with them. In this tutorial, we shall explain you how to use TeamViewer and what other interesting things you can do with it.
How To Remotely Connect To A PC Using TeamViewer
- Launch Teamviewer. Ask your partner to do the same. Get your partner’s TeamViewer id which he/she can refer from the left side of the application’s window. Enter it inside the box entitled ‘Partner ID’. Click on the ‘Connect to partner’ button.
- After doing so, you will get a prompt to enter the password that is displayed on your partner’s computer. Do the necessary action and hit ‘log on’.
Alternatively, you can choose to login via Windows authentication, which requires your partner’s Windows user credentials. To maintain authority, you may hit the advanced options in the password prompt window itself, and select the desired control authority you want to allocate. - After logging in, you shall be able to see your partner’s screen and control the keyboard/mouse as well. You may now do any operation on the computer.
Now that you have connected to the partner computer, you shall see a menu bar on the top of the window. We will now show you how to use the features.
What Can You Do With ‘Actions’?

You can choose to end the Teamviewer session with ‘Session Options’. In addition, you may choose to leave a note as well. With Windows options, you get the privilege to lock, reboot or perform the end task action (Ctrl+Alt+Del) on the remote PC.
Also, you can invite additional participants, for which you need to sign-in to your TeamViewer account. If you don’t have one then you click on the ‘Computers & Contacts’ located in the bottom left of your Teamviewer window. Next click on the ‘Sign Up’ button in the ‘Computers & Contacts’ window to commence the account creation process.
You can also view Remote System information, and directly initiate remote update from your end. By doing so, your partner will receive an update message, which he/she can accept to commence the process.
What is ‘View’?
With the ‘View’ options you can modify the scaling, resolution and quality of your video stream. You can either opt for a better quality stream with the possibility of delays in your stream, or choose to go with poor quality stream with no such possibilities. We recommend to setting the quality to ‘Auto Select’, which would decide the quality as per the circumstance. Especially relevant, you can use the custom settings to adjust the color and quality rather more dynamically.
You may also want to view a specific window on the remote computer, as per your need, by clicking on the button as shown above. You can get an exclusive view of the specific application, you want. Most noteworthy, you can enter into the full-screen mode as well.
How To Communicate With The Partner/Remote PC?
TeamViewer gives you the necessary tools to communicate with the remote user(s). You may opt to send a text message, or go for a video/audio chat. The image above clearly depicts the respective buttons you can click on to initiate the respective process. You simply need to navigate to ‘Communicate’ located in the menu bar. If you are connected to multiple users then you can easily set up a conference call.
You can choose to call via internet or call via telephone. The latter one though would require some additional charges as per the rates of your country. You can choose to customize the audio settings in case you opt for an internet call.
With the ‘Annotate’ feature you can use the remote screen as a whiteboard. You have the freedom to write/draw anything you want. To turn it off simply use the toggle button located in the TeamViewer window in the bottom right.
How To Transfer Files To Remote Desktop?
Access ‘Files & Extras’ in the menu bar. To send files from your computer, simply click on ‘Open File Transfer’. This will open a dialog prompting you to select files from your computer and send it to the desired location in the remote desktop. You just need to select the file you want to transfer, then select the destination in your partner’s PC, and tap on ‘Send’ to initiate the process.
If you want to transfer files from cloud services like Google Drive, Dropbox, etc simply click on ‘Share via file box’. You need to be signed in to TeamViewer to initiate the process.
Not only can you transfer files using the ‘Files & Extras’ feature but also you can take snapshots and record a TeamViewer session.
What Can You Do With The ‘Start’ Button?
Using the ‘Start’ button located in the menu bar, you can perform actions associated with the Windows start button. If your partner has a Windows 8/8.1 computer, you can directly access the ‘charms’ bar on his/her desktop.
How To Setup/Join A Meeting?
