Unblocking someone on Instagram can be useful in case you accidentally blocked someone, or simply changed your mind. The interface can be confusing, so we had many people ask about this. Here’s how to do it.
No matter whether you intend to block or unblock someone on Instagram, the target user will not be notified of the activity. They won’t be able to see your posts and your profile info either if you have blocked someone. It might make them think that you have deleted your Instagram account.
Note: When you block someone on Instagram, you automatically unfollow them. So, when you try to unblock, you will have to again follow them back.
How To Unblock Someone On Instagram: Android or iOS Instagram App
- First, you have to either recall the profile name and search for it. If you do not remember the name, you can always get the list of blocked users by heading to your profile settings option. To do this, you need to click on the “Profile tab” as shown in the image below and then tap on the gear icon next to your profile.
You will now encounter a couple of options to configure for your profile which includes enabling/disabling 2-Factor Authentication.
Simply scroll down to find “Blocked Users” option and tap on it to get the names.
- Once you access the profile of the blocked user, you need to tap the menu icon (three dots) to the extreme top-right corner of the profile screen as shown in the image below. Now, you will observe a couple of options, tap on “Unblock” to unblock the user. As mentioned above, you need to follow them again in order to see their posts/stories.
How To Unblock Someone On Instagram: Web Browser
While the official FAQ section of Instagram states that you cannot block anyone on Instagram via web browser, but it is working completely fine. So, you can block/unblock any user on Instagram when accessed via a web browser.
Similar to the app, you just need to search for the blocked profile first. On the web, you will not be able to get the list of blocked users – so you will have to recall the names in order to unblock them. Once, you get to their profile page, click on the menu icon to find the option to “Unblock this user“. And, it is done!

In case you are wondering about the method to unblock someone on Instagram app installed from the Microsoft store on your Windows machine – do not worry – it’s all the same.
