Earlier this year, Netflix debuted a new feature for its mobile apps called Smart Downloads. If you’re not sure what this feature is about, basically it means that if you’re following any particular series on your smartphone, enabling the feature will let Netflix automatically download the next episode and delete the previous one.
By downloading the episode, it means that you’ll be able to watch it even if you do not have an internet connection. The idea behind it is that you’ll always have something to watch even if you don’t have an internet connection. If this sounds like a feature you’d like to take advantage of, here’s how you can do it.
How To Turn On Smart Downloads For Netflix
- Launch the Netflix app
- Tap the More button at the bottom right of the screen
- Scroll down and look for App Settings
- Under Downloads, make sure that Smart Downloads has been toggled on
For the most part, Smart Downloads is usually enabled by default, but if you turned it off earlier without knowing what it was about, this is how you can go back and turn it on. Note that Smart Downloads will only work when you are connected to WiFi. If you’re using a cellular connection, like when you’re out, then you won’t be able to download new shows once you’ve completed the previous episode.
Since these are downloads, they will also take up storage space on your smartphone, so make sure that you have enough space on your smartphone or tablet. You can manage your downloads by going to the Downloads tab in Netflix and viewing all the shows that have been downloaded. You can also delete them if you’re done with them or want to free up some space.
