How to Stream Xbox One Games To Windows 10

Windows 10 is finally out and it has been a huge success for Microsoft: downloaded 14 million times within the first 24 hours of its launch. Windows 10 brings a lot of new features to your computers, but the most hyped for Xbox gamers, is the Xbox One streaming feature: Windows 10 lets you play your Xbox One games on your Laptop/Desktop/Tablet running the latest Windows 10 OS.

Streaming/Mirroring your Xbox One on your Windows 10 device is fairly simple. All you need is both devices connected to the same wireless/wired network and you’re good to go. Here are the specific steps to take.

1/ Set-up Xbox One for Game Streaming

On your Xbox One, navigate to Settings > Preferences and make sure that “Allow games streaming to other device” option is checked. Your Xbox One is now ready to stream your games on any Windows 10 device in your local network.

2/ Update The Xbox App on Windows 10

For most of you the Xbox App should already be updated by now, however, if it’s not then you have to update it first before you can stream any Xbox One content on your device. The app version number is displayed in the top-right corner when you launch the app. Make sure the version number is 7.7.29027.00000 or higher. If you have an older version then update the app via Windows Store app. Once you have the latest version of app, sing into the app with the same gamertag as you have on your Xbox One then move onto the next step.

3/ Connect the Xbox One Controller to the Windows 10 Device

Just plug in your Xbox One controller to your Windows 10 device via a microUSB cable, the same cable that you use to charge most of your smartphones. The drivers for the controller will be installed automatically so you don’t have to worry about it.

4/ Connect the Windows 10 device to the Xbox One

In the Xbox App on your Windows 1 device, click the Connect icon in the bottom-left. Now you should be able to see your Xbox One console in the list, if you don’t then it means your Xbox One and Windows 10 device are not connected to the same local network.

Click Connect next to your Xbox One console in the list.

Once the connection has been established. You will see a Stream button, click it to start the streaming.

Use the Xbox One controller to navigate through the Xbox One dashboard and play your games.

Tips

If you are experiencing constant disconnections, controller lag, or skipping in your stream then connect both your devices to a Wired network. Wired network is recommended by Microsoft and the stream is almost flawless on a wired network.
If you want to use a Wireless network then use a 5GHz 802.11 AC or N network. The closer both your devices to the wireless router, the better streaming connection you will get.
You can also reduce or enhance the quality of the stream by clicking the icon in the top-right corner during the stream and selecting one of the three qualities, Standard, Medium, High. Experiment with the qualities to figure out the best solution for your network.
There are other icons that let you change the volume, mute the mic, and view the bandwidth information.
You can also use the Xbox 360 controller to control the stream.
