How To Rotate A Video (Android)

Shooting a video on your smartphone is done easily, but it can become quite frustrating when the final product is not what you expected. In this particular case, we are referring to video orientation, which can be “wrong” for various reasons.

What usually happens is that the device ‘forgets’ to rotate its orientation, despite the fact that you have tilted it sideways. In this tutorial, we will be guiding you through the simple process of rotating a video on your Android smartphone or tablet.

How to rotate a video on your Android device using Google Photos

To do that, we will be using an application called Google Photos. If your device is relatively new, then it should have come with Google Photos pre-installed straight out of the box. If it didn’t, you can download the app for free from the Play Store. Your photo gallery app may have a similar functionality.

What Google Photos essentially does is store your photos and videos to the cloud, for you to access them from any device by just logging in to your Google account. If you are unfamiliar with the app, all you have to do is open it, log in to your Gmail account, and set your Backup & Sync settings. Here’s a quick tutorial of how the app works.

To change a video file’s orientation:

1. Open Google Photos
2. Find the video you wish to rotate
3. Tap to select it
4. Tap on the “Edit” icon in the middle
5. Hit ‘Rotate’ until the video takes the orientation of your preference
6. Hit Save .The App will process and save the video

After a few seconds, the orientation-adjusted version of the video will show up to your phone’s gallery as well.
