Apple says that they’ve relaxed the rules of the App Store to allow game streaming services, but unfortunately, there are still quite a lot of somewhat unrealistic restrictions in place that would make it difficult, if not impossible, to get a game streaming app onto the App Store officially.
This means that iOS gamers are out of luck when it comes to game streaming, or are they? If you are thinking of subscribing to Google Stadia but own an iPhone or iPad but still want to be able to play games through the service, you’re in luck because it’s actually pretty easy to do so.
The best part is that there is no jailbreaking involved, no hacks, and no sideloading of apps. This is thanks to Google finding a workaround through Safari, so here’s what you need to do.
How To Play Stadia Games On An iOS Device
- On your iPhone or iPad, launch the Safari browser
- Go to stadia.com and sign into your Stadia account
- You will be greeted by a prompt that lets you know you can play Stadia games in your browser, tap “Got it”
- Tap the Share button on Safari and select “Add to Home Screen”. This step is optional but it will help you launch Stadia quickly instead of you having to navigate to Stadia’s website whenever you want to play games
Setting Up The Stadia Controller With Your iOS Device
- Download and install the Stadia app if you haven’t done so already
- Launch the app
- Press and hold the Stadia button on your controller until you feel it vibrate twice
- Tap the Controller icon at the top of the screen
- Enter the linking code by pressing the corresponding buttons shown on your screen
Playing With Non-Stadia Controllers
Google Stadia does support the use of non-Stadia controllers. All you need to do is ensure that you have a Bluetooth compatible controller that is able to pair with your iPhone or iPad. For console controllers, right now the Sony PS4 and Xbox One controllers are supported, but for other brands, you’ll have to check with the manufacturer to make sure that they are compatible with iOS devices.
