Most Android phones don’t come with a big internal storage space, but many have a SD card slot to expand the storage. SD cards are inexpensive and can be easily moved from one device to another. However, android apps downloaded by default to the internal storage, which can fill up quickly.
Once it is full, you will start seeing an annoying “low storage” notification and the situation may also slow your phone down. Your best bet is to move your apps from your phone’s internal storage to your SD card.
In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to manually move apps to microSD card and also get help from a app to speed up the process.
Before we start moving the apps, you should know that not all apps can be moved to SD card. It depends on the app developer and on your phone. Apps that come preloaded with your phone cannot be moved to the SD card. Some features of the apps may also not work if they are moved to SD card.
Furthermore, If you want to move each and every app to SD card without any kind of restrictions, then you will have to root your phone. Despite these limitations, what’s important is to move the biggest apps (in terms of storage space), whenever possible.
Moving apps to SD card is actually simple, but there is no quick or bulk way to do it (unless rooted). To move an app, tap on “Settings” and from there tap on “Application manager” (or Apps/Applications).
On the next page, you will see all your downloaded apps. Here, tap on the app which you would like to move to SD card and you will see all its details. You should see a button that says “Move to SD card”, tap on it and moving process will start. It may take few seconds up to few minutes to move the app depending on the size of the app.
You will have to do this with each app and if a app cannot be moved, the “Move to SD card” button will be grayed.
Here is a video demonstration as well:
You can also get help from a dedicated app that will smooth up the process. But don’t get your hopes up, these apps will not automate the process or help you move apps in bulk (again, unless you are rooted). However, they will tell which apps are movable and which are not, so you won’t have to check each app individually (quite tiring task actually).
For this purpose, AppMgr III is a good app. It is actually an app manager, but its main focus is on moving apps to SD card and vice versa. Just download the app and you will see all the apps that can be moved, in the main interface under the heading “Movable”.
All you have to do is click on the app which you would like to move and confirm the prompt. You will then be taken to the app details screen like the one in first method, where you can tap on “Move app to SD card” button to move it.
If you have any questions or know any other method to move apps to SD card (no root), let us know in the comments below.
