How To Get Refunds For Steam Games

According to Valve’s policy regarding refunds, you can request for a refund for any game for a variety of reasons. Maybe you have buyer’s remorse, or you suddenly discover that you don’t have the time to play the game, or maybe the game didn’t deliver as advertised, or maybe the game went on sale shortly after you bought it at full price.

Whatever the reason is, Valve does accept refunds on two conditions: the request for a refund needs to be made within 14 days of purchase, and that you have played less than 2 hours of the game. This is to cut down on fraud causes where gamers play through an entire game and then request for a refund.

How To Get Refunds For Steam Games

  1. Head on over to the Steam Support page
  2. Sign into your Steam account, and click the “Purchases” option
  3. Select the game you want to refund and click “I would like a refund
  4. Choose where you want your refund to be sent to (Steam Wallet or to the credit/debit card tied to your Steam account)
  5. Give a reason as to why you are requesting a refund of the game.

According to Valve, refunds will take about 7 days to process. This can take longer for international payment methods. We should also point out that there is no limit to how many games you can request a refund for, although making frequent and multiple refund requests could potentially get you flagged for abusing the system.

Note that while Valve states that refund requests need to be made within 14 days of purchase with under 2 hours of gameplay time, but they have stated that you can always try submitting a request for an older purchase, but whether or not this is granted will be on a case-by-case basis.

When it comes to games, sometimes you can watch and read reviews, watch trailers, and look at screenshots, but yet when the time comes for you to actually play it, somehow it just doesn’t live up to your expectations. Different retailers have different policies with regards to returns/refunds/exchanges, but if you’re using Steam, you can actually request for a refund.
