Phone marketing is a big thing, businesses are making lists of phone numbers to market their products. In such a situation, it is quite normal if you wish to hide your phone number so people won’t be able to track you.
There can be many reasons why you may want to keep your number private, after all, you own it so it is your right to hide or show it. There are different ways you can achieve the same goal, although the effect might be temporary or permanent.
In this tutorial, we are going to show you different methods to hide your caller ID and you can use the one that fits your situation best.
Note: Although, the caller ID will be blocked for any number you call, but still for Toll free (1800) and emergency numbers (911) it will not be blocked.
Method #1: Use a Prefix to Block Caller ID
In most of the countries, you can just enter a code at the start of the number which you like to call, and your number will not be displayed on recipient’s phone. The code will vary from carrier to carrier and Country to Country. So, you will have to find the right code to block caller ID.
However, in most countries the Prefix *67, #37# and *37# work. So if you don’t know the code for your specific country or carrier, then try these two first. All you have to do is add one of the codes before the number of receipt and call, i.e. *675551122334.
If the above mentioned codes don’t work, then you can also contact your carrier to know the code or ask if they offer this service or not (drop a comment at the bottom of the page to share the info). It should be noted that there will be no confirmation that the caller ID has been blocked. This means, you will first have to try out which code works for you and then try to call the required recipient.
Method #2: Use Phone’s settings to Block Caller ID
Today, most of the phones come with a Caller ID blocking feature incorporated right in the Phone’s settings. On most phones, you can find this option by going to Settings and then Call/Phone (the names may vary).
On Android KitKat 4.4, you can just go to Settings and then tap on Call.
From there, tap on Additional Settings and in there, tap on Caller ID.
Now, just set the Caller ID to “Hide Number” and it will be blocked.
When you will call somebody now, they will not be able to see your number, instead they will see a message “Private number”.
However, if you like to disable this feature anytime, which you may have to do in many cases where you number is important to be displayed. Just go through the same process mentioned above and set the Caller ID option to “Show number”.
Every time you need to make a call, you will have to tweak this option according to the receipt
Note: Some carriers may not allow this feature, and there will be no confirmation in this method as well, while making a call. So first test this method and then call the required number, otherwise, call your Carrier to see if this feature is available or maybe need some activation.
Method #3: Contact Your Carrier
Your Carrier can also hide your caller ID, however, the effects will be permanent if they will do it. This is an option to consider if you want to be completely anonymous, but it has its own disadvantages.
First will of course be the permanent effect, all your calls will have no caller ID. If you would like to display caller ID, you will have to add a Prefix “*82” or “*31#”. There are many people who keep the phone on “Auto reject” for calls from Anonymous numbers. This means your calls will rejected automatically, so you will have to contact these people with an unblocked number.
Furthermore, this service is also not available for free, you carrier will charge for it according to their policy. There are also some terms applied for this service by your carrier, such as The service is restricted for pre-paid plans.
If you are sure that you are okay with all the disadvantages of this service, then contact your carrier and ask them to hide your caller ID. They might ask why you want to do this and also try to convince you to not take this step. However, the choice is yours, you can just tell them you want caller ID to be blocked and they will block it.
You should also ask them what would be the Prefix which you are required to add before numbers to make a call without Caller ID blocking.
If you have any questions or would like to share any other method to block caller ID, let us know in the comments.
