How To Disable Edge’s New URL Copy and Paste Feature

The Chromium-based Microsoft Edge is the new default browser for Windows 10. Even though it is a decent web browser, the improved copy and paste feature introduced by Microsoft is annoying for many users.

In this article, we will take a look at how to disable the new URL copy and paste feature.

What’s the Problem with the New Copy and Paste feature?

Usually, when you copy and paste the URL from the address bar of your web browser, the link gets copied. But, with the new improved feature, the title of the webpage gets copied with the hyperlink.

For instance, this is what you get when you copy a URL from the address bar: https://www.google.com

With Microsoft Edge version 87 or above, here’s what you get: Google. If you get the text (specifically, the title text of the web page) along with the hyperlink, it may not serve the purpose if you only wanted the URL.

Do note that depending on where you paste it, you will get different results. But, the default behavior on the new Edge browser is not useful for most users. So, if you want to simply copy-paste the URL from the address bar and do not want the hyperlink text, follow the steps below to disable the feature.

Here’s How to Disable Edge’s New Copy and Paste Feature

To get started, launch Microsoft Edge and follow the steps:

• Head to the top-right corner and click on the “three-dots” for additional options as shown in the screenshot above.
• From the options, click on “Settings“.
• Now, you will find several options on the left-side of the window. Navigate your way to “Share, copy, and paste” option as shown in the screenshot above
• By default, “Link” is the selected behavior. To disable the hyperlink texts, you need to click on “Plain Text” and restart the browser for the changes to take effect. Refer to the screenshot below to see it in action.

If you select the “Link” option again, the feature to copy and paste the text with hyperlink will be active.
