How To Create And Share YouTube Clips

Sometimes when you want to share a video from YouTube, the other person you’re sharing it with might not have the time to watch the entire video, especially if it’s long. Sure, you can share videos that start at specific times, but that can also sometimes be a bit finicky, which is why YouTube is introducing Clips.

The feature was announced at the start of 2021 which is basically YouTube’s answer to Twitch’s own Clips feature that lets users cut specific portions of a video that they can then share. This means that if there is only a specific part that you want to show others, Clips will let you do that.

How To Create A Clip On YouTube

If you want to create a YouTube Clip, the process is rather simple. According to YouTube, right now the feature is only available on mobile devices so if you’re trying to do this from your desktop, you won’t be able to do so, at least for now.

1. Open the YouTube app and make sure you’re signed into your account
2. Open a video to watch
3. Under the video, there should be an icon that looks like a pair of scissors
4. Tap on the icon
5. A create clip box will pop up
6. Select the section of the video you want to clip by dragging the slider
7. Give the clip a name
8. Tap Share Clip when you’re done

Do keep in mind that at the moment, YouTube is only testing out the feature. According to YouTube, “This feature is an experiment that’s only available to a small number of creators. We’re working to let more creators participate in the future.” So if you don’t see this feature yet or can’t access it, this is probably why.
