Back in the day before graphics-based emojis were a thing, people were using combinations of various keyboard characters to create a similar effect, like how :) is equivalent to a smiley emoji, :( to a frowny face emoji, and so on. These days with emojis being so easily available and accessible on our smartphones, what about our computers?
If you’re chatting from your computer and want a quick way to access and enter emojis into your writings, emails, or text messages, then here’s how you can add them regardless if you’re using a Mac computer or a Windows-based setup.
Adding Emojis On A Mac
With Mac computers, it appears that Apple is actually making it pretty easy for users to add emojis to their chats or writing.
- Click on any text field
- Press Ctrl + Cmd + Space
- This will bring up the emoji window
- Search for the emoji you want or just click on what’s available in the list and it will add it to your text field
- Rinse and repeat the steps above to keep adding more
Adding Emojis On A Windows PC
Similar to Mac computers, Microsoft has introduced a keyboard shortcut that lets you bring up the emojis Window where you can quickly click and select the emojis you want to add to your text.
- Click on any text field
- Press Windows + ; (semi-colon) or Windows + . (period)
- This will pull up the emoji window
- Scroll through the list and click on the emoji you want to add it to your text
