At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Realme introduced a very interesting interchangeable-lens camera concept for smartphones. This prototype technology enables users to mount DSLR lenses directly onto their handsets, significantly enhancing mobile photography capabilities. Alongside this innovation, the company also showcased two AI-powered imaging features designed to streamline photo and video editing.
The Phone will be able to capture up to 10x optical zoom using the accessory.
Realme’s new lens-mounting system does not replace a phone’s built-in camera but allows DSLR lenses to be attached to a compatible device. The prototype features a customized 1-inch Sony sensor and a proprietary mounting system, treating the external lens as the primary camera. At MWC 2025, Realme demonstrated two lenses: a 73mm portrait lens for professional bokeh effects and a 234mm telephoto lens capable of lossless 10x zoom.
The company highlighted that this prototype is not yet mass-produced, emphasizing its commitment to solving industry challenges such as sensor size limitations and digital zoom compromises.
In addition to the new lens system, Realme introduced two AI-driven imaging tools designed to enhance user experience:
Realme has not yet announced a release date for these technologies, but their showcase reflects the company’s ambition to push the boundaries of smartphone photography.
