HONOR Announces ALPHA PLAN to Shape the Future of AI Ecosystems Globally

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, HONOR announced the HONOR ALPHA PLAN, a comprehensive strategy to transform the company from a smartphone manufacturer into a global leader in AI device ecosystems. This ambitious plan, unveiled during a keynote presentation, outlines a three-step path to usher in a new era of intelligent technology while fostering an open, value-sharing ecosystem to maximize human potential.

The Symbolism Behind ALPHA

The name “ALPHA” holds symbolic meaning for HONOR’s vision. As the first letter of the Greek alphabet, Alpha represents the company’s pursuit of technological excellence. Additionally, the connection between the lowercase Greek letter “α” and the Chinese character for humans (人) reflects HONOR’s commitment to human-centric innovation. This East-meets-West symbolism underscores HONOR’s global aspirations to deliver value to consumers worldwide.

A Three-Step Strategy for the Intelligent Era

The HONOR ALPHA PLAN is built on three phases:

    1. Agentic AI Era: The first step focuses on developing an intelligent phone by collaborating with partners to break down technology boundaries. HONOR aims to redefine AI devices with a human-centric approach, showcased through a demo featuring the world’s first GUI-based personal mobile AI agent. This agent demonstrated practical capabilities, such as making table reservations by integrating HONOR Calendar and traffic data in partnership with Google Cloud and Qualcomm.
    2. Physical AI Era: The second phase expands the focus to a broader AI ecosystem, encouraging industry-wide collaboration. HONOR’s goal is to create a seamless AI environment that integrates a variety of smart devices.
    3. AGI Era: The final step envisions a world where artificial general intelligence (AGI) coexists with human intelligence. HONOR calls for an open AI ecosystem that enhances human capabilities and fosters a new paradigm for civilization.

HONOR introduced AiMAGE, a new brand for its AI-driven imaging technology. Powered by the AI Kernel, AiMAGE is the industry’s first to support both on-device and cloud AI models. Locally, a 1.3 billion parameter model boosts image clarity by 50%, while a 12.4 billion parameter cloud model enhances telephoto images. An AI Upscale feature for restoring old photos will roll out on the HONOR Magic7 series starting this March.

Commitment to Sustainability and an Open Collaborative Ecosystem

“As we move into the physical AI era, we need to open our industry boundaries and co-create a new paradigm for the AI ecosystem,” said James Li, CEO of HONOR.

HONOR will invest over USD 10 billion to support its strategic goals in the next five years. The company also pledged seven years of Android OS and security updates for its Magic series in the EU. On the sustainability front, HONOR aims for carbon neutrality by 2040 across its operations and by 2050 for its entire supply chain.

To progress to the second phase of its strategic ALPHA PLAN, HONOR is encouraging the industry to expand AI capabilities to a broader range of devices. It aims to facilitate smooth collaboration and build a shared-value ecosystem with its global partners.

Industry leaders from Google Cloud, Qualcomm, and major telecom operators joined HONOR on stage, symbolizing a collective commitment to building an open AI ecosystem. As part of this vision, HONOR introduced the world’s first all-ecosystem file-sharing technology capable of ultra-fast transfers to both iOS and Android devices. The brand also announced the upcoming rollout of AI deepfake detection features on its flagship devices.

With the HONOR ALPHA PLAN, the company is not only redefining its business but also laying the groundwork for an interconnected AI-driven future.
