At CES 2025, Lenovo unveiled the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable, the world’s first rollable display AI PC. The company had previously showcased a prototype laptop with a rollable display at MWC 2023, where we awarded it one of Ubergizmo’s Best of MWC 2023. Developed in collaboration with Lenovo Research, the device transitioned from a proof of concept to a fully realized product. The rollable display operates smoothly, offering a large screen surface in a compact form factor. A larger display size enhances productivity, and we would have loved to have this machine while traveling.

Rollable Display and How It Works

The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable aims to redefine productivity and multitasking with its expandable rollable display technology. The screen expands vertically in about 7 seconds from a compact 14-inch OLED display to a larger 16.7-inch display by simply pressing a dedicated key or using hand gestures detected by the camera. The display features 400 nits brightness and 100% DCI-P3 color accuracy, ensuring vibrant visuals and clarity. This transformation provides nearly 50% additional screen space, all while retaining the ultra-slim form factor of a 14-inch laptop. The device measures 19.9mm in thickness and weighs 1.7kg, making it portable and lightweight.

The vertical expansion not only adapts to various tasks such as document editing, presentations, and data analysis but also enhances split-screen functionality. This feature allows users to manage multiple applications simultaneously without sacrificing screen space. The vertical screen format encourages better posture, potentially reducing physical strain for professionals during long working hours.

Target Audience and Use Cases

Tailored for mobile professionals, business travelers, and productivity-focused users, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable addresses the needs of those requiring seamless multitasking capabilities. The extended vertical display is ideal for tasks involving document review, project management, content creation, and data analysis. Professionals in creative and technical fields can take advantage of the split-screen capabilities to work across multiple windows simultaneously.

The inclusion of virtual display technology allows users to create a secondary display that can be shared uniquely during meetings. This reduces the need for external monitors and enhances productivity in a portable form factor.

Hardware and Performance

The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable is powered by Intel Core Ultra processors, delivering AI-optimized performance and power efficiency. Equipped with Intel Arc graphics, the laptop ensures high performance for demanding professional tasks. It features Intel Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, Thunderbolt 4 ports, and Bluetooth 5.4, providing reliable and fast connections for various applications.

The device also boasts a 5MP camera with an IR sensor and electronic privacy shutter, an edge-to-edge keyboard with ForcePad, and Dolby Atmos audio with Harman/Kardon speakers.

AI and Software Integration

As part of Lenovo’s Copilot+ PC lineup, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable integrates AI-driven features such as Lenovo AI Now and Cocreator. These features streamline workflows, providing personalized suggestions and supporting generative AI tasks like content creation and data analysis. Offline AI capabilities ensure productivity even without internet access.
