Apple To Refresh Smart Home Lineup In 2025, Including HomePod-iPad Hybrid

Apple plans a comprehensive refresh of its home-based product lineup in 2025, including updates to the Apple TV, HomePod mini, and the potential launch of new devices like a hybrid HomePod/iPad. These products aim to enhance smart home functionality, featuring custom-designed chips for improved communication and data synchronization.

According to Bloomberg, a new Apple TV and HomePod mini are expected in the second half of 2025; While some updates may focus on internal improvements, others could include redesigned hardware. Both devices might support WiFi 6E, and Apple’s custom WiFi and Bluetooth chips are expected to replace current third-party solutions. These chips will enhance device interoperability and reduce Apple’s reliance on external suppliers like Broadband.

The updated HomePod mini should bring Apple’s new custom chips for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Among the anticipated launches is a “Command Center” smart home hub, featuring a 6-inch OLED display, built-in speaker, and camera. This wall-mounted device is designed for interaction and control of smart home systems, potentially debuting alongside the iPhone 17 lineup in late 2025.

Additionally, Apple is rumored to be working on a hybrid HomePod/iPad device with a 6 to 7-inch display, possibly running a new operating system tailored for smart home use, referred to as “homeOS.”

A hybrid between HomePod and iPad (just like the Pixel Tablet) is expected for 2025 running a new OS called homeOS.

Apple’s shift to custom chips underscores its strategy to enhance integration across its ecosystem. These new chips will first appear in the iPhone 17 lineup and later extend to Mac and iPad models by 2026. While some designs, like the new Apple TV, may remain similar to current iterations, the inclusion of advanced connectivity and functionality positions Apple’s smart home products for a significant upgrade.

These developments align with Apple’s efforts to expand its smart home ecosystem, though exact timelines and specifications are subject to change as final details emerge.
