Today at IFA, Lenovo launched the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition. The successor of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12, it is one of the first devices to feature Intel’s newly announced Core Ultra processors (Series 2), which are based on the cutting-edge Lunar Lake architecture. These processors promise enhanced performance and significant improvements in power efficiency, setting a new standard in the laptop market.
High-Performance, Power Efficiency and AI Capabilities
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition features an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor, the most powerful from Intel’s latest Core Ultra Series 2 lineup. Paired with the Intel Arc Xe2 GPU, the system also features an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of delivering up to 48 TOPS (trillions of operations per second). This powerful combination provides a 3x increase in AI performance compared to the previous generation, revolutionizing the laptop’s ability to handle AI-driven tasks while maintaining good power efficiency.
According to Lenovo, the advanced AI capabilities extend across both the NPU and GPU, offering users unprecedented scalability in AI computing, whether it’s for data processing, creative work, or gaming.
OLED Display and User-Friendly Design
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition comes with a 14-inch 2.8k OLED display with Dolby Vision and anti-glare treatment, offering crisp visuals and vibrant colors. The display also supports a switchable 120Hz refresh rate, catering to both productivity and entertainment needs.
Adding to the laptop’s appeal is the premium Haptic TouchPad, which incorporates the iconic three-button red TrackPoint. This feature ensures precision and comfort during use, making it ideal for professionals who demand reliability and ease of navigation.
Lightweight, Sustainable, and Long-lasting
Lenovo has crafted the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition with a strong focus on sustainability and user convenience. Weighing in at under 1kg, it is the lightest ThinkPad X1 Carbon ever, making it perfect for on-the-go professionals. The device is made from 90% recycled magnesium for the C cover and is packaged in 100% plastic-free materials derived from bamboo and sugarcane.Sustainability extends to the battery as well, with a customer-replaceable unit (CRU) design. According to the manufacturer, the laptop’s 57-watt-hour battery can deliver up to over 18 hours of life on a single charge, thanks to the power efficiency of the Core Ultra processors. This ensures users can work throughout the day without needing to recharge.
On the connectivity side, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition gets WiFI 7, Bluetooth 5.4, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 connectors, HDMI 2.1, and an Audio Combo Jack.
The Aura Edition Experience
The Aura Experience, designed in collaboration with Intel, includes Smart Modes, a set of AI-powered software features directly accessible via the F8 key at the top of the keyboard. Thanks to Smart Modes, previously hard-to-find AI-driven features are now directly accessible from a dedicated window displayed on the home screen.
Whether focusing on work with Attention Mode, safeguarding privacy with Shield Mode, or enhancing video calls via the Collaboration Mode, Smart Modes adapt the laptop to various scenarios.
Additional features like Smart Share allow seamless AI-driven image sharing between smartphones and the laptop by simply tapping the phone on the edge of the laptop. Smart Share supports both Android and iOS platforms.
Smart Care provides real-time troubleshooting and support from Lenovo technicians, ensuring users receive assistance whenever they need it.
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition comes in Eclipse Black, and will be available starting from November 2024 at a starting price of $1,999.
