OnePlus and OPPO are reportedly developing a 7,000mAh battery for their phones, according to a leak from Digital Chat Station on Weibo. This significant battery upgrade could be introduced in a mid-range phone.
While a 7,000mAh battery is not unprecedented, with devices like the Samsung Galaxy F62 and Galaxy M51 already featuring similar capacities, mainstream phones generally feature batteries around 5,000mAh due to design constraints.
OnePlus’s recent advancements in battery technology, particularly with the introduction of a silicon-based battery in the Ace 3 Pro, highlight their efforts to enhance battery life without significantly increasing device thickness or weight. The Ace 3 Pro, for example, boasts a 6,100mAh battery within a frame less than 9 mm thick and weighing only 207 grams.
Silicon-based batteries offer higher density compared to traditional batteries, allowing for greater capacity within a smaller form factor. This suggests that OnePlus’s future devices with a 7,000mAh battery might maintain a similar sleek design.
This innovation is not exclusive to OnePlus, as other manufacturers like HONOR and Xiaomi have also adopted silicon-based battery technology — This development indicates a broader trend in the smartphone industry towards either increasing battery capacity or reducing the size of the battery without compromising performance. Thus, future smartphones could either feature larger batteries or maintain their current battery life while becoming more compact.
