Samsung Electronics has introduced a new Medications tracking feature in the Samsung Health app, aiming to enhance users’ ability to manage their health comprehensively. This feature allows users to conveniently monitor both prescription and over-the-counter medications, offering valuable information and tips about the medications. It is designed to assist those who regularly take medications and those using supplements for general well-being.
Users can input the name of a medication into Samsung Health, and the Medications feature will provide detailed information, including general descriptions and potential side effects. The feature also alerts users to adverse reactions that may result from drug interactions or if combined with specific foods and substances like caffeine and alcohol. For example, if a user is taking Simvastatin, the app will warn about serious side effects when combined with grapefruit juice.
Additionally, users can log the shape and color of their medications for easy differentiation, and details such as dosage and consumption time can be added to prevent confusion. The app allows users to set up reminders for medication intake and refills, tailoring the alerts based on the importance and urgency of each prescription. Reminders range from “gentle” to “strong,” with crucial medications triggering a full-screen alert and supplements prompting a less intrusive pop-up reminder.
Galaxy Watch (check out our review on the Watch 6) users will receive reminders on their wrist, ensuring they stay on track with their medication schedules. The Medications tracking feature complements Samsung Health’s existing health offerings, covering sleep management, mindfulness programs, and irregular heart rhythm detection.
This addition aims to provide users with a holistic wellness experience, promoting healthier lifestyles while effectively managing their medication regimens. The feature will first be available on the Samsung Health app in the U.S., with updates rolling out later in the week.
