Google has announced the Pixel Watch 2, the latest generation of its smartwatch lineup, during a dedicated event. While the visual design remains largely unchanged from its predecessor, several notable improvements set this new model apart.
One of the key enhancements is the adoption of the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 platform, replacing the Exynos 9110 chip used in the previous version. This transition could have a significant impact on the device’s performance and energy efficiency, potentially extending battery life.
Speaking of battery life, the Pixel Watch 2 features a 306mAh battery, a slight improvement over the 294mAh capacity of the previous model. Google claims that even with the Always On Display feature active constantly, the watch should be capable of lasting up to 24 hours on a single charge.
The watch sports a circular OLED screen with a resolution of 384 x 384 pixels and a 1.2-inch size. It comes equipped with various sensors, including a blood oxygen level monitor, stress tracking capabilities, and detailed sleep monitoring features, enhancing its utility as a health and fitness tracker.
Moreover, the Pixel Watch 2 boasts an IP68 certification, ensuring its durability and making it suitable for swimming in pools without concerns about water damage.
Pre-orders already started for the US, with the gadgets being offered through Google Store, and Fitbit.com. Google offers two options for its new smartwatch: The Bluetooth-only version, priced at $350, and the LTE variant, with 4G LTE cellular connectivity, available for $400. Both will be available in 30 countries on October 12.
