During an event in Berlin, Lenovo unveiled the Lenovo Legion 9i (16”), a high-end gaming laptop that boasts several top-of-the-line features. The flagship of the Legion lineup, the 9i is touted as the world’s first 16-inch gaming laptop to feature a self-contained liquid-cooling system, catering to the needs of gamers and content creators who demand robust graphic capabilities in a portable package.
The Legion 9i hardware is impressive, sporting a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13980HX processor, with options to include an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU and up to 64GB of Overclocked 5600Mhz Dual Channel DDR5 RAM or 32GB of Overclocked 6400Mhz DDR5 Dual Channel RAM. Storage options include up to 2TB of PCIe SSD (Gen 4) .
A standout feature is the Legion Coldfront integrated liquid-cooling system, a world-first on a 16-inch gaming laptop. This system, designed in collaboration with Cooler Master, manages temperatures by running over all hot components, including the GPU VRAM. Additionally, the laptop incorporates an AI-tuned, triple-fan air-cooling mechanism featuring an impressive 6,333 individual intake vents, ensuring optimal performance even during tasks requiring a heavy workload.
The laptop’s aesthetics and durability are taken to the next level with an innovative A-cover made from forged carbon chips. Not only does this material contribute to weight reduction, but the forging process also guarantees a unique pattern on each Lenovo Legion 9i computer, adding a touch of individuality to the design.
The Lenovo PureSight 3.2K Mini-LED 16:10 display features a 165Hz variable refresh rate and a high screen-to-body ratio.
Connectivity options are comprehensive, with a 99.99Whr battery that can be charged via the included 330W Slim Adapter or the 140W Type-C Power adapter. The MediaTek Filogic 380 Wi-Fi card offers Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 capabilities with wireless speeds up to 6.5Gbps.
Furthermore, the Lenovo Legion 9i comes preloaded with Windows 11 and a 3-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, providing access to an array of quality games. To round out the package, the laptop incorporates Nahimic by SteelSeries immersive 3D audio technology, enhancing the overall gaming and entertainment experience.
Since Legion is now an important brand for Lenovo, the company is introducing new “Legion” laptop bags with two distinct styles. Each is clearly spacious enough to carry this specific computer, and they might even fit 17″ laptops such as the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 3, but we haven’t tested that yet. The product names are Lenovo Legion 16” Gaming Backpack GB700 and GB400 (GB = “Gaming Bag”), and the GB700 has an internal volume of 20L with many internal customizations, depending on how you want to organize your belongings.
