The new Moto G Stylus 5G (model 2023) is an upgraded version of the Moto G Stylus, featuring a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor, 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of expandable storage. It offers improvements such as a larger storage capacity and faster performance than its predecessor. As its name indicates, it is now compatible with 5G and should provide faster average network speeds.
The phone will be available unlocked for $399 with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while carrier versions will have 128GB of storage and 4GB or 6GB of RAM. There’s a microSD slot, so it’s possible to increase the storage very cost-effectively, something we rarely get with high-end phones anymore.
It features a smaller 6.6-inch screen than the previous year’s edition (6.8”). However, this change is considered positive as the 1080p resolution is sharp enough, and users will appreciate the 120Hz refresh and slightly smaller bezels.
The camera system is powered by a primary 50MP sensor that seems more performant than last year’s, but Motorola dropped the optical image stabilization (OIS). We’re looking forward to adding an official Ubergizmo CAMERA HW benchmark. There’s also an 8MP Ultrawide camera that doubles as a Macro camera, thanks to the auto-focus, a sensible choice for that price point.
The 16MP Selfie camera is a notable upgrade from the 2022 model (8 MP), and this will please vloggers and tiktokers who are more comfortable using a vertical selfie camera than the primary one in the back.
The Stylus functionality will please a crowd that likes taking handwritten notes or doodling on the phone. It is also scarce in this price range. Of course, the pen experience is not as sophisticated as on expensive phones like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Still, it’s hard to complain at this price, especially since the competition is practically non-existent.
Finally, the 5000 mAh battery capacity is excellent. It should easily last for a whole day, and probably more, since this phone uses a processor that is not power-hungry.
This new Moto G Stylus 5G will be available from the big-brand carriers in the USA, including AT&T. Alternatively, you can get an unlocked version directly from Motorola if you like using SIM cards from various carriers, perhaps for international travel.
Overall, I think this is a good upgrade over last year’s model and gives users a clear differentiation at its price point.
