If you are a big fan of FPS (first-person shooting) games you probably may have come across or even heard about Counter-Strike. In the past few days, game creator Valve Company filed new Counter-Strike 2 trademarks, indicating that a sequel is being prepared. What some thought might be a CSGO Source 2, because of recent activity in the Steam backend, may be wrong and fans could be presented with a full sequel instead.
This past week Valve has been making changes to the CSGO Steam archive, adding new executable files dubbed ‘CS2’ and updating the Counter-Strike Global Offensive beta platform, which made many fans think that the company was preparing CSGO Source 2, a long-awaited engine update – but a bit of digging in the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) suggested that a full new version of Counter-Strike could be on the way.
On March 14 a trademark application was submitted for something called ‘CS2’, and the filling contains a ‘related properties section’ which outlines any other Valve trademarks to which the new game might be connected. Searching the two serial numbers contained in this specific section reveals Counter-Strike and CSGO (both property of Valve).
Down below we can see the CSGO trademark filing with the matching registration number:
In other words, both games are intellectual property linked to the ‘CS2’ brand. If the new game is going to be released soon or not, we don’t know yet but if you want to get the best of it, it’s better to get grinding on those CSGO ranks!
