Another IFA has come and gone, but this one is significant because it’s the first time since 2019 that we’ve met in person with many colleagues from the tech media industry. Of course, the gadgets are back in full force, and while we could not see everything, we worked hard before and during the show to see as many cool electronics as we could. Here are the top 10 products that we think you should not miss. In no particular order:
Huawei is on course to have the first smartwatch with medical-grade precision for ECG measurements. The company developed an “out of the box” design that includes an inflatable bladder, just like your doctor’s ECG device, but smaller, classier, and always on your wrist. Mind-blown.
Lenovo introduced the world’s first folding display laptop and used that experience to launch the highly refined ThinkPad X1 Fold Gen 2 laptop. It has massive upgrades such as the display size, keyboard design, and much more computing power than the first generation. It could be the ultimate corporate boardroom status symbol. Can’t wait to take it for a spin.
LG just ended the debate about Flat vs. Curved large monitors (or TVs): why not both?! The LG Flex is a 42-inch OLED gaming monitor that starts flat but can bend to offer the best possible immersion when you need it to. Dropped mic.
Allergies are tough to deal with, and one feels like nature is out to get us. Respiray Wear creates an allergy-free bubble around your head by capturing and filtering allergens. Is this the end of runny noses in the Spring? We hope so!
As its name suggests, the Withings Body Comp Smart Scale can check the percentage of fat, especially visceral fat, and the body’s weight. But there’s more: Withings claims its latest scale can also gauge the blood vessels and nerve health. As nerds, we’re a bit afraid of knowing the results, but that seems like an excellent step for wellness gadgetry.
The Honor 70 phone is designed to bring great design and features to the 550-600 USD price range, and it’s fair to say that it is a success. The design uses techniques borrowed from recent high-end phones, and the camera configuration has been shuffled to increase consumer value. You won’t get every feature, but in its category, this is the best phone of IFA 2022.
Parents are often justifiably worried young kids spend too much on-screen time. StoryPhones proposes an audio-only entertainment alternative that offers hours of audio content that parents can easily select and deploy to their kids’ headphones. So simple, why did we have to wait for 2022 to have it?
The Lenovo Glasses T1 might deliver where generations of heads-on displays have failed: give consumers glasses that can replace a large display in tight spaces and complete privacy. Based on our experience with the Lenovo ThinkReality A3, the Glasses T1 prototype was extremely promising. The product lands in 2023.
Philips has masterfully put together several technologies to build its new OLED+907 and OLED+937, which features extreme brightness capabilities and high-end audio quality. A tradeshow is never an ideal place to gauge audio, but we’ve seen enough TV demos to know these new products are unique and deserve to be recognized.
Indeed, image quality has far outpaced built-in audio if you own a large, expensive television. Bang & Olufsen aims to plug that gap by bringing high-end audio into the living room. The Beosound Theatre’s design is timeless and exquisite, and its width can even adapt to match your TV perfectly! Brace for the price, though.
