On messenger platforms such as WhatsApp, misinformation can run rampant as people send and receive messages that may or may not be accurate. The onus is really on the user who has to decide whether or not a message is real and whether they want to share it with others.
However, WhatsApp has tried to curb the spread of false information by placing limits on forwarded messages and also labeling messages that have been forwarded many times, hoping to give some context. Now according to WABetaInfo, it appears that WhatsApp is placing further restrictions on forwarded texts.
According to the latest Android beta of the app, WhatsApp seems to have placed an additional limit on forwarded messages where these messages can only be sent to one group chat at a time. This doesn’t mean that users can’t forward messages to multiple group chats, but you’ll need to do so manually instead of selecting all your group chats at once.
Presumably by making it difficult to forward to multiple group chats at once, it might discourage users from mass forwarding their messages, which in turn will hopefully be able to cut down on the spread of misinformation. Whether or not this is an effective solution remains to be seen, but it’s something that could appear in the next update to WhatsApp.
