This is based on a tweet by the ever-reliable Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities who claims that both those computers are now expected in 2023. We’re not sure if this means that both computers might be announced in 2022 but launch in 2023, or if they will only be fully unveiled in 2023 and skip 2022 entirely.
Predictions for Apple's new desktop products:
1. 2022: More powerful Mac mini and more affordable external display (27-inch without mini-LED).
2. 2023: Mac Pro and iMac Pro.— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) March 6, 2022
It wouldn’t be the first time that Apple has taken a while to launch a new computer following its announcement. For example, the trash can Mac Pro from several years ago was actually announced at WWDC but only became available much later in the year, so it is possible that Apple could follow a similar strategy.
Both the 27-inch iMac and Mac Pro are the only remaining computers that have yet to be given the Apple Silicon upgrade, where the 27-inch iMac has been rumored to be called the iMac Pro. We’re not sure what’s with the potential delay, but seeing as we’re still a long way from Q4 2022, we’ll just have to wait and see how this one plays out.
