MWC 2022 has come and gone, with a flurry of announcements and innovations, perhaps more than we expected. Some brands launched large quantities of new products, and many are genuinely worthy of your attention. If we had to boil it down, here’s what we thought were the best products and technologies at MWC, in no particular order:
Samsung’s Galaxy Book2 series features new thin & light laptops ranging from $749.99+ to $1249.99+ that are very good-looking and capable. Our favorite model is the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360, which includes a digitizer pen, an excellent AMOLED display, and a large battery.
It’s always fun to look at Creative concepts, and this TCL Fold & Roll was one of the show’s highlights. As its name indicates, the device features two advanced display technologies, as it can first be folded open, then the display further extends by “rolling” it outwards. There are no plans to build commercial products yet.
Motorola has launched an updated version of the popular Motorola Edge+ powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen1 platform. The 6.7″ phone features a 144Hz display, two powerful 50MP camera sensors, and a 60MP selfie camera. Obviously, that’s a 5G phone that starts at $999.
Honor is well-known for its smartphones, but the Honor Watch GS 3 shows the company has a talent for wearables too. The GS 3’s industrial design is its primary advantage as it looks very sleek and more watch-like than many competitors. Still, it features the latest display technology and smartwatch functionalities.
The ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen5 is shaping into one of the most exciting light workstations of 2022. The specs, including the Intel Core i9 H-Series and the RTX 3080 Ti GPU, are shaping up to be as powerful as possible within this form factor. And because it’s a workstation, it can get 64GB of RAM and 8TB of storage. That’s quite formidable for a 4.4Lbs laptop.
The ThinkPad X13s is a great milestone for Qualcomm as its Snapdragon 8cx gen 3 platform powers this Windows ultralight clamshell laptop, the first ThinkPad powered by Qualcomm and ARM. And unlike many ultralights, it is configurable with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. Bravo.
Huawei entered the AIO (All-In-One) PC category with this beautiful MateStation X computer that shares the innovative design introduced last year by the Huawei MateView monitor. This computer’s hardware could be compared to Huawei’s high-end MateBook laptop, so it’s great for office productivity usage.
As battery capacity is stalling around 5000 mAh for the foreseeable future, the next best thing we can get is fast-charging. Oppo’s 150W SuperVOOC technology is the latest in a string of battery innovations from Oppo. Imagine going from 0 to 50% in 5mn and 100% in 15mn! Who wants it?
Many people listen to music or radio shows to fall asleep, but the downside is the sound that helps you fall asleep might then disturb the quality of your sleep. The Kokoon NightBuds are smart enough to know when you’re sleeping and fade the sound out. Additionally, they are designed to feel more comfortable even if pressed onto a pillow.
Users shopping for phones in the $400-$700 range should watch for upcoming smartphones powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8000 processor platform. This chip is designed around a very advanced 5nm semiconductor process and is as featureful and fast as 2021 high-end processors but at a much more affordable price.
