Upcoming Windows 11 Update Lets You Type With Your Voice

Both Windows and macOS allow users to type using their voice. It’s essentially a speech-to-text feature where instead of typing on a keyboard, you just say out what you want written as text and it will attempt to convert it for you.

For the most part, it works if you’re speaking and using “regular” words, but what about certain names or words that aren’t necessarily readily identifiable? For example, what if you’re speaking out a foreign name and Windows doesn’t understand it? Or what if you need to type a mix of letters and numbers?

The good news is that according to Microsoft, they are working on an update to Windows 11 that will allow users to quite literally type using their voice. Basically instead of saying out words and numbers, you will speak out the individual alphabets and numbers to “type” them into your computer.

So for example if you needed to spell out a website URL, an address, or an email address, instead of hoping that Windows will understand what you’re trying to say, you can spell it out letter by letter, number by number, and it will input it into the computer for you. Right now, the feature is only available to users in the Dev channel, so it might be a while before it will be available to all users.
