Don’t Expect In-Display Touch ID In The iPhone 14

While it appears that Apple is fully committed to using Face ID for its security in its iPhones, at least for the higher-end flagship models, many are still calling on Apple to bring Touch ID back. This is because Touch ID is more convenient and giving users the option isn’t a bad thing.

We have heard rumors that an in-display Touch ID could arrive this year, but analyst Ross Young has shut those rumors down. When asked about Touch ID in the iPhone 14, Young said that it doesn’t look like that will be happening. The analyst does not mention when the feature could arrive, so maybe don’t get your hopes up just yet.

This is because Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who also has a very good track record for Apple related predictions, had suggested that back in August 2021 that Apple could have scrapped their plans to bring Touch ID to its future flagship iPhones. The report suggested that Apple had initially planned to bring it to the iPhone 13 but later changed their minds.

It went on to say that Apple has instead chosen to focus on improving Face ID and that the company is “all-in” on Face ID. This is pretty much in line with Apple’s official stance when Face ID first debuted. While Apple does continue to use Touch ID in some of its products like lower-end iPads, iPhones, and its Mac computers, Face ID is the default feature for its higher-end mobile devices like the iPad Pro and iPhones.
