Model Says AirTag Was Used To Track And Stalk Her For Five Hours

Apple’s AirTag tracking accessory is surprisingly affordable for something with an Apple brand slapped onto it. It is also surprisingly good at what it does, but it seems that its effectiveness and cheap price has created a bit of a privacy nightmare for Apple and its users.

According to Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Brooks Nader, in a post on Instagram, the model says that on Wednesday night, someone had slipped an AirTag into her coat pocket which let them track and stalk the model for about five hours that night as she went bar-hopping in New York City.

She was only alerted after a notification appeared on her iPhone that an unknown accessory was moving with her, and she only discovered the AirTag in her coat when she got home. This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about the AirTag being abused for uses beyond what Apple had intended.

We’ve seen how the accessory has been used to tag expensive vehicles so that thieves can follow it and steal it later. We’ve also heard of it being used for stalking, and while Apple does have anti-stalking features built into it, we can’t help but feel that maybe it takes too long to activate. Hopefully this is something that Apple is looking into.
