In fact, it seems that Microsoft is taking their rivalry to the next level where the company has taken to inserting popups in Edge where if a user goes to Google’s Chrome website, it will show them various messages where it says, “Microsoft Edge runs on the same technology as Chrome, with the added trust of Microsoft.”
Neowin also came across another message that said, “That browser is so 2008! Do you know what’s new? Microsoft Edge.” To be fair, Google Chrome does show popups to recommend the usage of Chrome when using a different browser, but at least Google allows users to reject the recommendation, whereas in Edge, there is no option to do so other than to agree with Microsoft’s recommendation.
These “recommendations” also show up if you use Bing to search for Chrome, as you can see in the screenshot above. These popups won’t appear every time users try to download Chrome, but we imagine that for some, it might be annoying enough.
