LG Could Be Making Three New Displays For Apple

When Apple first discontinued their Thunderbolt Display, the company worked with LG to launch UltraFine displays designed for the Mac. Then Apple followed up with their own Pro Display XDR, which suggested that maybe the partnership with LG had ended, but now a new report suggests otherwise.

According to a series of tweets by @dylandkt, they suggest that LG could actually be working on three new monitors for Apple. Two of these monitors are apparently designed to share similar specifications as Apple’s new 24-inch iMac and the upcoming rumored 27-inch iMac Pro, while the third will be the successor to the 32-inch Pro Display XDR that will sport Apple branding.

However, the third model is rather interesting because the tweet claims that there are references to a custom silicon that could be used to power the display. We’re not sure what the chipset could be used for and what kind of advantage it might have over a display that doesn’t have a chipset, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Note that this is only for the 32-inch model and that the other models will not have a custom chipset and will be more traditional displays. Either way, take it with a grain of salt for now and hopefully we’ll have more details come 2022 which is when Apple is presumably going to announce them.
