However, according to analyst Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities in a research note obtained by MacRumors, he believes this could change with the iPhone 14. Pu claims that for the iPhone 14, Apple might start things out rather low and offer an iPhone with a starting storage of a measly 64GB.
It is unclear why Apple would do such a thing and regress with their storage options. It is possible that maybe with the global chip shortage, Apple could only get their hands on 64GB storage for the lowest option. Alternatively, it could be a way to force customers to pay more, where customers might think that 64GB is ridiculous and just pay to upgrade to the more expensive 256GB option.
That being said, there is nothing officially announced yet so it’s best to take this with a grain of salt for now, but you can bet there will be a fair amount of outrage and ridiculing if Apple were to go through with this.
