This is according to analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities in a research note obtained by MacRumors, where Pu suggests that Apple could equip the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max with 8GB of RAM. There is no mention of the smaller iPhone 14s, so it is possible that Apple could either maintain the 4GB of RAM found in the iPhone 13, or they could bump it up to 6GB to put it on par with the iPhone 13 Pro.
Now, 8GB of RAM is still quite little when you look at Android phones, many of which are starting to pack as much as 12GB of RAM. However, in Apple’s defense, the company does control the hardware and software of its iPhones, meaning that even though it comes with 8GB of RAM, it won’t be an issue as they would have optimized its software around it, and developers would also have to work within these “limitations”.
That being said, Apple did bump the RAM in the iPad Pro refresh earlier this year up to 16GB, so we’re not sure why the iPhone isn’t being treated the same. Either way, we’ll have more details in 2022 so check back with us then for more updates.
