According to a report from Taiwan’s Commercial Times, they are now suggesting that Apple is expected to adopt an 18 month cycle when it comes to Apple Silicon upgrades. This means that instead of annual upgrades like we’ve seen in the A-series chipsets that we found in the iPhone, Apple will only upgrade the M-series every 1.5 years.
This seems to be more or less in line with the rumors about the M2, which many are expecting to launch in 2022. Given that the first model was launched in 2020, it will be roughly 1.5 years in between. The report goes on to claim that Apple will continue to use the current strategy, which is to release Pro and Max versions of the Apple Silicon in between upgrade cycles, meaning that we might see the M2 Max and Pro either by the end of 2022 or early 2023.
This is one of the advantages that Apple by making their own chipsets. Instead of relying on already-available tech from Intel, and be subject to any potential delays, the company can now choose to develop and release its own tech on their own schedule.
