One of the major changes Facebook made several years ago was to allow users to react to posts. This meant that instead of liking a post, users could react with a laughing emoji, a sad emoji, a heart emoji, and so on. The idea is that this could convey how people felt without them having to type it out.
It also made it less awkward when someone posts something sad and you don’t want to “like” it. Now it seems that Meta is getting ready to bring that Facebook feature over to WhatsApp. As spotted by WABetaInfo, it seems that the latest WhatsApp beta has revealed the company’s plans to add the ability for users to react to messages.
This means that instead of replying to messages with an “OK” or “LOL”, users can react the same way they would to a Facebook post. There are already other messengers that have this feature, like Facebook Messenger and Instagram, both of which are also owned by Meta, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that this feature would come to WhatsApp as well.
There is no date on when this reaction feature will be released to users, but as it is already in the beta, we imagine that its availability shouldn’t be too far off, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information.
