Samsung’s Mobile Browser Follows Apple’s Controversial Decision To Move The URL Bar To The Bottom

When Apple first introduced iOS 15 at WWDC 2021, the company showed off some of the changes they made to its Safari app. One of the more controversial changes was how Apple moved the URL bar to the bottom of the app, making it easier for users to reach the address bar with one hand.

While well-intentioned, many users did not seem pleased with the change, resulting in Apple making it an option that users could enable if they wanted to, or maintain the existing layout. Now it looks like Samsung has decided to follow in Apple’s footsteps by updating the Samsung Internet mobile browser on its smartphones with a similar feature.

This change is part of the latest beta of the app, but thankfully, Samsung learned from Apple’s mistakes and gave users an option to keep the URL bar at the bottom or keep it at the top like most users have been used to.

As 9to5Mac notes, Apple is not the first to think up of this design and Google has in the past tried their hand at it, but ultimately reversed course. To be fair, having used Safari with the URL bar at the bottom, it does take some getting used to. However, the gestures and ease of use with one hand is actually rather beneficial.

Either way, it’s going to be a feature that Samsung users can look forward to in the future, so it’s up to users if they think it’s a good idea or a bad one.
