While Blizzard never provided a launch date for either game, many gamers speculated that it could launch in 2022, but it now looks like 2023 will be the earliest, and that is once again just speculation. This was revealed during the company’s Q3 2021 earnings report.
According to Blizzard, “As we have worked with new leadership in Blizzard and within the franchises themselves, particularly in certain key creative roles, it has become apparent that some of the Blizzard content planned for next year will benefit from more development time to reach its full potential.”
For those unfamiliar with what Blizzard means by new leadership, basically following allegations of sexual harassment, discrimination, and a “frat boy” work culture, it saw quite a number of Blizzard execs either quit or get let go, such as Diablo 4’s game director and lead designer, Luis Barriga and Jesse McCree.
It is a shame that we won’t be seeing either game anytime soon, but hopefully there won’t be any further delays and that come 2022, Blizzard will have a more concrete release date for us.
