Apple has slowly been updating its devices with 120Hz refresh rate displays. This started with iPad Pro from a few years ago, before it arrived on the iPhone 13 this year, and also the company’s new MacBook Pros. Now it seems that the next device to get the upgrade could be the iPad mini.
According to a post on the South Korean forums shared by @FronTron on Twitter, they are claiming that Apple is testing out an 8.3-inch Samsung display that would feature a 120Hz refresh rate. The company refreshed the tablet earlier this year with a brand new design but it kept the same LCD as its predecessors.
iPad mini 6 Pro (tentative name)
Samsung Display has shipped an 8.3x" 120Hz display sample to Apple.
The model starts from a 128GB variant with 4GB of RAM, and a 3.23GHz A15.
The price is slightly higher than the mini 6, however, it isn't that burdening.https://t.co/SjtlLESeJq— Tron ❂ (@FrontTron) November 4, 2021
This means that it is entirely possible that Apple could eventually upgrade future iPad minis with a 120Hz display as it makes it a standard feature across its product lineup. The report goes on to claim that Apple could be calling this the iPad mini 6 Pro and it will be slightly more expensive than the current model, but nothing too prohibitive.
Obviously this should be taken with a healthy heaping of salt for now since we can’t really corroborate these claims, but we can only hope that it is true. We’ve long felt that the iPad mini is actually a really nice size for a tablet and for it to get features like a 120Hz mini LED display would be icing on the cake.
