The modified iPhone X was then put on eBay for auction where it went up to as much as $100,000. Now according to a report from Gizmodo, the auction for the phone has ended where the winning bid was a staggering $86,001. It seems that there might have been some joke/troll bids because there were some bids over $100,000 that were later retracted.
That being said, $86,001 is still a lot of money and we’re not sure if the winner will actually be willing to pay that much for it, so there is a chance this could fall through. However, it is a very interesting and a very difficult mod to pull off and it’s not just about taking out the Lightning port and putting in a USB-C one.
According to Pillonel, he had to actually reverse engineer Apple’s C94 connector and create a custom circuit board, while modifying the chassis to make sure it fits the USB-C’s slightly larger connector. This means that a lot of work was put into it and maybe the $86,001 price tag could be justified.
