On platforms like Twitch, users can tip their favorite streamers as a way of supporting them. Back in 2020, Instagram introduced something similar for its creators in the form of badges. These badges can be purchased by followers of the creator’s livestream which will help them stand out from the other participants.
This means that if a user wanted to show their support to a creator and also get their attention, purchasing badges was one way to go about it. The good news is that if you’re a creator looking to get in on the action, Instagram has expanded its badges program where all US creators aged 18 and above with at least 10,000 followers will be able to use it.
The feature, like we said, was launched last year and was only available to select creators. Instagram rolled it out to more creators in October, and now it looks like it will be available to all who meet the requirements. These badges are sold in increments of $1, $2, and $5. Right now, Instagram isn’t taking a cut from these badges and don’t plan to until at least 2023, which means that all creators will be able to keep the proceeds.
In addition to badges, Instagram is also working on allowing creators to create subscriptions that would allow them to create content locked behind a subscription as a way for creators to earn more money.
