Facebook Messenger And Instagram To Get End-To-End Encryption By 2023

If you’re concerned about your privacy and are worried that your messages can be intercepted and read, then you might not want to use Facebook Messenger or Instagram to send messages that might be sensitive in nature. This is because neither of these platforms have end-to-end encryption.

Now, Meta did state that they would be introducing end-to-end encryption for these platforms in 2022, but it looks like it has since been delayed to 2023. This is according to Meta’s global head of safety, Antigone Davis, who in an opinion article for the Telegraph revealed that the feature would only arrive in 2023.

The article talks about Meta’s products and services and what they’re doing to make it safer for users to use. Davis also talks about how the company has a “three-pronged approach” to “prevent harm” and to give users more control, where she mentions, “We’re taking our time to get this right and we don’t plan to finish the global rollout of end-to-end encryption by default across all our messaging services until sometime in 2023.”

While this doesn’t mean that either of these platforms are “dangerous” to send and receive messages with, if you do have chats that might be sensitive in nature, then you should probably seek alternatives such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and so on for now.
