As far as tracking accessories are concerned, Tile has been offering these accessories way longer than Apple has. However, one of the main advantages that Apple’s AirTag has over Tile is its use of UWB technology. Compared to Bluetooth, UWB offers more precise locations, meaning that users will have better accuracy at locating lost items rather than a general location.
However, it seems that Tile is now ready to take on Apple and the AirTag as they have announced their newest tracker, the Tile Ultra, that the company claims will leverage both Bluetooth and UWB technology for tracking and locating lost items attached to the tracker.
According to Tile, “Ultra provides highly accurate visual finding, making it easy to find lost keys behind a shelf or a bag left in a noisy restaurant. Tile is working with Google to ensure an optimal experience on Android 12 and Ultra-Wideband supported smartphones.” The Tile Ultra is expected to launch in 2022 but if you can’t wait, Tile has also updated its existing lineup.
This includes the Tile Pro which offers a 400 foot Bluetooth range but now comes with a new key fob design, making it easier than ever to attach to keys right out of the box. The Tile Mate, Sticker, and Slim trackers have also been updated with a 250 foot Bluetooth range, louder ring, and IP67 rating for water-resistance.
For those concerned about these trackers being used to stalk or harass, Tile says that they will be launching a new “Scan and Secure” feature in 2022 that lets users use the Tile app to scan for nearby Tile devices to determine if an unknown device is around them.
