There are several reasons why this is the case. One possibility is that the new Pixel phones are much more popular than Google had anticipated and demand is exceeding supply. This shouldn’t be too surprising given that the phone is powered by Google’s brand new Tensor chipset and comes with a ton of awesome Pixel-exclusive features.
After nearly 3 hours of trying, I finally got my #Pixel6 and #Pixel6Pro ordered. Delivery expected in late December and early January of 2022. This is insane! pic.twitter.com/nbEVbIqczF

Another possibility is that the global chip shortage has affected how many units Google is able to produce at the start. This is a problem faced by many manufacturers including the likes of Apple and Samsung, where the latter apparently decided to skip launching the Galaxy Note series for 2021 as a result of this chip shortage.
That being said, some comments have suggested that ordering the phone through Google’s Fi program could see shorter shipping times, so if you have a Fi account or don’t mind signing up for one, that could be an alternative, otherwise be prepared to wait.
