However, according to Dan Seifert of The Verge, they have confirmed with Apple that the SD card slot on the laptop is UHS-II. Given that UHS-III already exists, it is a bit of a pity that Apple did not adopt the newer protocol. So what does this mean if you’re looking to transfer data from an SD card to your computer?

UHS-II offers speeds of up to 312MB/s, while UHS-III offers speeds of up to 624MB/s. This is a pretty huge difference, especially if you’re looking to transfer large files and you need it done quickly. UHS-II is by no means a slouch, but clearly UHS-III is a lot faster and we imagine that this is something that many users might appreciate.
That being said, we don’t imagine that this will be too big of a deal. The new MacBook Pros have been found to offer up some pretty impressive performance based on unconfirmed benchmarks, but it’s something that professionals might want to take note of, especially if it’s going to be a feature they’ll be using quite a bit in the field.
