This is according to a post on Weibo by Digital Chat Station, a well-known leakster, who claims that Apple has started testing out a new 120Hz display with a hole-punch cutout for the front-facing camera. This would be a design that many other Android handsets have adopted in the past to try and reduce the notch, so it’s not an entirely brand new design.
This claim seems to be corroborating a previous claim by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who stated that for the iPhone 14, Apple could adopt the hole-punch cutout. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg had also previously hinted that for the iPhone 14, Apple could be going with a completely new design, so an iPhone without the notch sounds like a possibility.
Apple’s iPhone 13 is an upgrade over its predecessor, but apart from the usual performance related upgrades, it feels marginal at best. For those who are thinking of upgrading, if you can wait one more year, maybe the iPhone 14 could be a more worthy upgrade to spend your money on.
