Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy The Definitive Edition Announced

Back in August, it was rumored that Rockstar was working on a trilogy remaster of their Grand Theft Auto series. It turns out that the rumors were true as Rockstar has since officially announced Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. This will include the original Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto 2, and Grand Theft Auto III.

For those who only joined the GTA with GTA 3 and onwards, you might be a bit surprised when playing the original GTA or GTA 2 as it looks like a very, very different game. The original two games feature 2D graphics and a top-down view of the map, versus the more recent iterations of GTA which are 3D and offer a third-person perspective.

According to Rockstar, “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will feature across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals.” The company also notes that they will be removing existing versions of the original games from digital retailers next week, so you might want to hold off on buying them yet, unless you actually want to play the originals.

The trilogy will be available on the PC as well as consoles like the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch later this year, while they will also be finding their way onto iOS and Android in 2022.
