According to a recent rumor, it has been suggested that in order to achieve a near bezel-less design for the upcoming MacBook Pro refresh, Apple will actually be introducing a notch to the display where it will be housing the front-facing webcam. It seems that there is a chance that Apple could be applying this design to their laptops moving forwards.
This is according to a forum post from August by Ty98 where he suggests that Apple’s 2022 MacBook Air could adopt the notch design as well. Apple refreshed the MacBook Air last year where it was among the first wave of Apple computers to get the new M1 chipset. However, the laptop continued to use the previous design.
However, the rumors have been claiming that Apple is expected to redesign the MacBook Air as well where they’ll be giving it a more uniform design with flatter edges all around, while also sporting new color options similar to the M1 iMac that launched earlier this year. Now it seems that apart from the new color options and design, the notch will be something we can look forward to as well.
Like we said in the previous post, a notch on a laptop seems rather weird, especially since it will eat into the Menu Bar of macOS. There hasn’t really been any evidence within macOS to suggest that Apple is trying to redesign macOS around the notch, so be sure to take this with a healthy dose of salt for now.
