WhatsApp has a “last seen” feature that basically lets users show other users when they were last online. It’s a useful feature to have, but some people have chosen to turn it off because it can be a bit invasive when people start questioning when you haven’t replied to their message even though you were last seen a minute ago.
The good news is that it appears that WhatsApp is giving users more control over the feature. Instead of turning it on or off, WhatsApp will soon let users choose who they want to see their status. This is according to a report from WABetaInfo who revealed that the company is testing out the feature that will let users choose who can see their last seen status.
At the moment, the last seen feature offers users the choice of turning it off completely, turning it on for all users, and turning it on only for contacts. However, WABetaInfo’s screenshots reveal that there will be a fourth option that lets users turn it on for contacts with exceptions, meaning that you can add people to this list if they are in your contacts but don’t want them seeing your last seen status.
As the feature is still in development we’re not sure when it will be available to all users, but for those who want more granular privacy controls, this is one to look forward to.
