If you’re a budding videographer who’s hoping to maybe use the new iPhone 13 as their primary video capture device, then here’s something Apple did not announce at the event. According to the specs page, it turns out that if you want to use ProRes in 4K at 30 FPS, then you will need to own an iPhone 13 Pro with at least 256GB of storage or more.
This doesn’t mean that lower storage models won’t support ProRes, but if you own the 128GB model, then ProRes for you will be limited to 1080p resolution at 30 FPS, which is still fine and workable for some, but obviously it’s not a bad thing to be able to shoot in a higher resolution as it retains more details even when you crop.
ProRes won’t be launching alongside the new iPhones. Instead, it will come as part of an update later in the year, so you should probably decide which model you want right now.
